What to Expect
The first step in the process is a free consultation. We provide 15-minute virtual consultations to discuss primary communication concerns, determine the need for a comprehensive evaluation, and discuss next steps.
After completing the initial consultation, the next step will be filling out the intake forms, which provide important information about you or your child’s communication concerns, medical history, and other relevant background needed to support the evaluation and service planning process.
A 60-minute speech and language evaluation will be conducted to determine the client's current communication abilities. This evaluation will include administration of formal assessments, skilled clinical observations, and caregiver input to inform recommendations and communication goals. After this, the Speech-Language Pathologist will review recommendations and write a detailed report and treatment plan to address specific communication difficulties as needed. This report will be reviewed at the client's first treatment session.
Every six months, a re-evaluation of speech and language will take place to support progress monitoring and to determine need for ongoing services.
Disclaimer: An initial evaluation is not required if your child has received a speech and language evaluation in the past 6 months. If this is the case, please upload a copy of the evaluation report in the patient portal.
If speech therapy is recommended after a comprehensive evaluation, your child will attend ongoing sessions focused on individualized communication goals. Families will receive guidance on strategies to use at home, and progress will be reviewed regularly. Therapy is typically recommended 2–3 times per week for 30-45 minute sessions, depending on your child’s needs. Specific recommendations will be discussed with your family following the evaluation.
